Announced in 2019 during Google I/O (the annual conference of Google), Google Search now allows to integrate augmented reality in search results. The functionality is currently open only to Google partners such as Numerized.

What does Augmented Reality look like on Google Search?

There is a “see in 3D” button that appears directly in Google search results. When a user clicks on the button, an augmented reality module is launched directly on the user’s smartphone. The user does not need to download a specific application to live the experience. The video below shows the user experience of AR on Search:

 

 

Do you want to test it yourself? Our partner Decathlon (one of the main sport retailer in France) integrated the solution on some of its pages allowing to activate the button “see in 3D” on Google Search. To try it, just type the keywords “Decathlon EB 900” on Search.

 

Improve the user journey directly from Google Search.

When a potential customer searches for a product, he can now integrate it into his own environment (at home?) with real dimensions, right from Google search. He can of course admire the product from all angles, move it to the right place, zoom in on specific parts but also share photos of the product in his environment or share the model directly via iMessage on iOS so that the recipient can also experience it. Once the experience is complete, the user closes the Augmented Reality window to return to the search results. From an Android device, he can also click on the product link directly from the Augmented Reality window to land on the product page.

How to integrate your 3D models in augmented reality on Google Search?

It’s very simple thanks to Numerized, you don’t have to do anything. You just have to integrate the code of Numerized’s 3D player on the product page so that Google can automatically feature the 3D functionality on Google Search. Technically, Numerized’s 3D player integrates the metadatas allowing to activate this functionality on Search, avoiding you having to do it on your side.

To pick up the embedded code, log into your Numerized account, then from the dashboard, go to “My Catalog” and select the products you want to integrate (screenshot below).
